Geese

May 17th, 2024, at a quaint venue in Columbus, Ohio, Geese and El Camino Acid put on a very memorable sold-out show. Up first was El Camino Acid, who play what I would describe as the best cookout music. Honestly, I can think of few things better than a summer cookout with eating mouthwatering bbq, El Camino Acid playing in the background, all while soaking in the sun. A mix of rock and indie filled and spilled out of the big garage doors that open onto Neil Avenue outside of A&R Music Bar. I’ve had the chance to see these guys on a few occasions around Columbus, and they never disappoint. If you are reading this and are from the Columbus area, keep an eye out for both headlining and opening announcements because you wouldn't want to miss them!
Overall, I will not lie, A&R is not my favorite venue in Columbus. Although it has a sick patio with great views of the stage, if you are caught getting there late, your view will most likely be obstructed by huge pillars. So, if you plan on attending a concert there, be at the venue with your ticket when the doors open.
Anyway, Geese was the headliner, and they honestly blew me away. If you want to listen to some real 21st century rock you need to listen to Geese. Not that I don’t love the rock my parents grew up listening to, I mean, what Gen-Z doesn’t remember listening to Van Halen, U2 (my dads personal favorite) and Def Leppard with their parents growing up. They are the classics. But, after the 100,000th time of listening to “Pour Some Sugar On Me” I was left with an unsatisfied feeling. How, many times can you listen to the same song without getting sick of it. When I discovered Geese it was a breath of fresh air. I feel like you never know what you are going to get with rock music. Being a bit alternative, in my opinion, can be a great thing. Personally, although the basic beats and melodies that plague TikTok and social media in general are catchy, it makes me happy to see that more and more rock, indie, and alt bands are making it big and even headlining at festivals like Coachella, Hangout Fest, and Gov Ball. Geese also did not disappoint, playing hits like "Cowboy Nudes," "2122," and "Mysterious Love." The lead singer, Cameron Winter, sounded even better in real life, had fun with the vocals, and was overall an extremely entertaining performer! That can be said for the rest of the band too. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to talk to the band, but I hope for an opportunity in the future, potentially at Gov Ball in New York, where I will be seeing them play next!
The night was one to remember. A great show to start out my summer concert season!
